Film Editor: Searching for Angelina

Documentary

Directed by Steve Pasvolsky

https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1099262/

Dramatic, intimate and a real-life detective search, this is the true story of Australian Filmmaker and Oscar nominee Steve Pasvolsky as he embarks on an international search for an elderly Xhosa woman, Angelina. Angelina was a domestic worker in Steve's home in South Africa, where he grew up, but he hasn't seen or spoken to her for 40 years. The search for Angelina soon turns into a mystery to solve her disappearance... and once her grandchildren are located, Steve realises he is not as welcome as first thought. He travels to South Africa anyway. Suspicion and damage from Apartheid surface quickly on both sides of the fence - causing old wounds to open. Why had it taken Steve 40 years to look for Angelina? And why look for her now?

In 1970, Steve left South Africa with his three siblings and parents for a new expatriate life in Sydney. As a ten-year-old, Steve knew nothing of the story behind his beloved Xhosa nanny, Angelina. Steve has only recently discovered that one of Angelina's own children had died while looking after his privileged family in leafy Cape Town.

As his family built their new middle class life in Australia, no one thought of her life's journey, or the death of her children. They never saw or heard from her again. Searching for Angelina follows Steve's desperate search for Angie in order to finally, express appreciation and respect for the sacrifices she made for his family. It's about disappearance, redemption and hopefully for Steve, an opportunity to be forgiven.

Film Editor: Sunsets: Powderfinger Farewell Tour

The Sunsets Farewell Tour was a 2010 concert tour of Australian rock band Powderfinger. It was their last concert tour following the announcement on 9 April 2010 that they would be breaking up after the tour, saying it would be their last ever as the band had musically said everything they wanted to say.[1] It coincided with the release of their final album, Golden Rule, on 13 November 2009.

Film Editor: Goodbye Revolution

Shen Jiawei, one of Australia’s foremost painters, was born in Shanghai a year before the Chinese Communist Party came to power in 1949. Forty years later, Shen moved to Australia, at the time of both the Tiananmen Square uprising and the birth of his daughter, Sydney.

Now, nearly twenty years later - Shen Jiawei is taking us back to China. It’s a journey of rediscovery and reflection, a journey through which we’ll get to know and admire a unique and interesting artist. As well, Shen will give us a personal and intimate insight into a China that is still a mystery to most Westerners.

This beautiful and moving documentary is a “labour of love” by Esben Storm, a director best known for television drama and his distinguished feature films including 27A, IN SEARCH OF ANNA and DEADLY.
